In order to paint the Panel doors, there should not be any scraps on the door.
Generally, the panel doors are consist of either MDF and wooden materials. If there is any debris present on the surface of wooden part of the doors, initially it is advised that to add required paste onto surface. Then via the help of level80 type sandpaper, the grinding process should be started in order to clean the scraps from it. Level 80 type sandpaper is thick sandpaper so that while grinding, it may harm the surface of your wood. This harmed zone triggers a lot of scratches on the surface. In order to get rid of these scratches level220 type sandpaper needs to be used. The surface of American panels should be neat and clean, no any scraps allowed! However, if any scratches or any other defaults, you also need to take care of these defects. Besides, there should not be any paint residues left on the surface. Also, you should check the bottom of the panel and sandpaper it to prevent paint flow.
The strip of the panel door and also the MDF parts needs to be sandpapered correctly. If needed, the strip part may be dismantled and painted separately. The varnishing step may change vary to vary according to the type of panel doors.
If you have a coated surface panel door, filling type varnish should be used. However, if you would like to paint the coated surface with another color rather than its original, initially pinoteks treatment should be done. Pinoteks is a kind of system which protects wooden surfaces. Besides, with this material you can also color the surface over again. The pinoteks types are; oaken, wallnut cashew, pear, venge etc.
After the completion of pinoteks process, filler-gun will be used for varnishing the surface.
Varnish is a transparent, hard, protective finish or film primarily used in wood finishing but also for other materials. Varnish is traditionally a combination of a drying oil, a resin, and a thinner or solvent. Varnish finishes are usually glossy but may be designed to produce satin or semi-gloss sheens by the addition of “flatting” agents. It allows cellulosic, polyurethane and AC (Acidic hardener). For better results; varnishing needs to be done via filler gun.
Varnishes are also applied over wood stains as a final step to achieve a film for gloss and protection. In order to get flat surface, you may apply it onto surface more than one time. Generally, 2-5 times coated surface will clearly give the good results. However, if the surface is very rough you may do this application over and over. Besides, you also need to clean the scraps after every coated surface. Filled zones needed 12 hours for drying.
Next step is grinding/abrasion. Grinding process should be done properly and every scratch must be rectified before going any further.
Just after the completion of sandpapering; paste checking and sandpaper defects are needed to be done. If needed, patina process should be realized. Besides, coloring arrangement has to be completed. With cellulosic filler varnish, any kind of scraps needs to be removed from the surface.
At the end of this step, the finishing of the door will be done and preferentially the color of the surface could be chosen. According to this preference; it could be bright, semi-flat or flat. It is obliviously, depends on user’s choice.
If you are going to paint the American panel with ageing method, initially it should be filled with polyurethane lining. The first coat of the paint could be White, yellow oxide or Brown. For your own preference, one of these color options can be used in your scope. When it’s done, the drying time should be given to it. After 12 hours, you able to start sandpapering. Then, you could re-paint the surface once again. The choice of paint could be polyurethane based paint or cellulosic. Either it could be yellow oxide, brown or cream, too. When the color of the door chosen and the painting has completed by you, the patina process should be take place.
Patina is also can be chosen by you and you should consider the colors and type of it. It could be either black or dark brown. After the completion of patina process, a drying step should be done properly by the applicator. The special wire may be used in this step. The main part of this process is the quality. You should be noticed that, every part of its surface must be equal. Next step is, removing the scraps and applying cellulosic varnish onto its surface. After the completion of the scrap removing, the surface dust must be cleaned gently. Just after that, final coating should be done. This step can be bright, silk mat or ashen mat.
